Lions and Tigers and Bears... Oh My!

Sorry, I couldn't resist the title.  I am cheesy at heart.

Last Friday was Rory’s very first trip to the Zoo.  I was so excited to take her.  We talk about animals all the time and she loves them in books and as stuffed animals so I thought she would just go wild at the zoo (yep, i said that).  I was excited to go with Amy and Calvin because we hadn't seen them in TOO long (but bummed that Meghan and Jack couldn't make it).

I think her favorite animal that we saw was the bear.  She could have watched it all day.  The bear was quite close and was awake and moving around and HUGE.  She just stared, it was very cute.

Calvin and Rory also loved the Leopard.  Calvin yelled “Wake Up” and the Leopard actually listened.  So we got to see him move around a bit too.  They are so cool.

Calvin and Rory holding hands walking around the zoo was too cute.  And it made it easy for us to keep track of those two.  We did have a few incidents where they were not in hand holding mode at the same time, which caused some whining and maybe some tears (from Rory, not Calvin).

The giraffe exhibit was the funniest part though.  Rory could care less about the Giraffes; she was more interest in dancing to the African music.  She loved it!

I was most excited for the farm for Rory to be able to pet the animals and see them up close.  Well, she was not a fan.  She would not touch the goats or the sheep.  She would inch her way closer and then run away.  Amy, Calvin and I all pet them and tried to show her it was ok, but she was having none of it!  Hopefully next time.  This was as close as I could get her to take a picture with the sheep, and you can see how thrilled she was about that!

The zoo reminded me how tentative Rory can be.  She looks to me for approval before she does a lot of things and often asks before she touches something. She will ask for help to climb or step up on a ledge area to see the animals too.  When she hasn't done something before she often gets nervous and will ask for help too.  She'll face and try new things but she is very cautious about it.  I'm guessing she gets this from me.

We bought an annual pass so expect more Zoo posts soon!

Father's Day!

I am the worst gift giver of all time.  I am inconsistent and often give bad gifts.  I think I gave my Dad coffee for his birthday 5 years in a row.  I try to think of something thoughtful and can't come up with anything so I panic!  Every once in a while I hit the nail on head - My Mom LOVES her Birchbox!  Tim loved his sapphire cuff links last Father's day!

I wanted to try to top last year's Father's day gift this year, and when I saw this Pin I had to do it!

I hummed and hawed over where to take the photos and what outfit Rory should wear, but eventually we settled on this super cute Gap Romper!  Rory and I were planning a morning at the Farmer's Market so I thought I would try to find a pretty background there.  That ended up working out really well...the Minneapolis Farmer's Market has an awesome garden section that made an amazing background. I love the way the brick and the flowers look! And I want that bench!

I had a cooperative playful toddler which made the photo shoot super easy!  Even my outtakes were cute.  Here are the 3 photos I ended up picking.

Oh, And the letters.  I was originally going to go to Michael's and buy a D and and A.  Then I realized I have and entire play mat that is made out of letters!  So I borrowed those for the day and the colors ended up working out perfectly with her outfit!

Rory picked out a card (Mickey Mouse of Course) and the wrapping paper (soccer ball mama, soccer ball), and we framed and wrapped the photos for Daddy!

I didn't want to bring the breakable gift to the softball fields so I took a picture of the wrapped gift to show Tim he had something waiting at home!

I think it turned out so cute!  Looks great in Tim's office!

MN Half Training

Today I start training for the Minnesota Half Marathon.  I honestly have no idea how I am going to do it though.  With Tim travelling for softball every weekend I am going to struggle to get the long runs in.  But I'll try to stick to the training plan as much as possible.  Oh, and I think Tim will be gone for the actual race so I better find someone to watch Rory.  This is really not well thought out!

I must admit, I will be really glad when the Chalean Extreme videos are done.  I am pretty sick of them.  I think 90 days is too long for a video program.  However, I do plan on keeping weight training as part of my workout at least once a week.  And... I really want to Insanity this winter!

Rory's First Popsicle

Summer means being outside, swimming and of course Popsicles!  I thought Rory was going to just love it, I mean really its just frozen sugar right?!? But she was a little unsure at first.  She kept saying "Cold, Cold, Brr" and touching the Popsicle with her hand then handing it back to me.

Then Willow tried to escape and distracted both of us!

But then Rory got into and got messy like a toddler with a Popsicle should!

She ate maybe a third and then handed it to me and said All-done.  Maybe she is like me and doesn't like orange.  We have all summer to find out her favorite!

A Week in Chicago

Well, I had the most amazing week at home!

Rory, Tim and I drove to Elkhart Lake Wisconsin on Friday 5/31 for a couple nights stay in one of my favorite towns ever.  My Mom and Michael and Tim's parents met us for the weekend and we had so much fun!  There is something about that town that makes me so happy!  I wish I could spend a month there.  Rory got to go to the beach for the first time. She absolutely loved it.  She spent almost 2 hours just pouring sand from bucket to bucket.

Here's a few more from Elkhart...

Sunday we went back to Chicago area and had dinner with Tim's family.  Rory LOVED spending time with Annie and Alex!  They were so great with her, it was really fun to watch.  (I was given the OK to post this one online!)

Monday I worked in the morning and then Loni came over.  We headed to lunch and then took Rory to the park.  It wasn't enough time to catch up though!

Monday night Rory and I went to dinner with my Dad, Laura, Nana, Papo, Uncle Harvey and Cousins Phil and Melinda.  It was very loud in there and Rory was exhausted and crabby but we made the most of it!  It was so nice to see everyone, but again not enough time to catch up!

Tuesday I took the whole day off so that we could spend it with Nikki and Maddie.  I asked Rors Tuesday morning if she wanted to go spend the day with a baby.  And the whole ride there she was saying Baby, Baby, Baby.  It was very cute.  She had a little trouble saying Maddie (it came out Mannie) but toward the end of the day she said it right a few times.  Rory loved Maddie, but she REALLY loved Nikki.  I've never seen her latch on to someone so quickly and use there name so much!  Here's proof... I tried explaining to Rory you can't just climb in a lap when another baby is already there, but she was having none of it!

Nikki and I signed up for the Honky Tonk Half in WI Dells in October.  We are both so excited.  I love running halfs with Nikki, but am really excited for the medal photos around WI Dells afterward!  We had so much fun taking pics in Waterloo last time.

Wednesday and Thursday I worked and spent time with my Mom and Michael.  They both LOVED spending time with Rory and are both so good with her.  Thursday Rory went to Tim's parents all day and got to spend some quality time with them.  All babysitters all week said she was a rockstar napper and was really fun!  For being in so many different places she really was a trooper!

Friday I worked in the morning and then spent the afternoon with Amy!  We had awesome sushi and enjoyed some baby-free time while her Nanny watched the kiddos.  Caleb and Rory had a little lunch date of their own...

Friday night and Saturday during the day Rory got to spend tons of time with her cousins!

And the big finale was Sara and Steve's amazing wedding.  It was beautiful and such a blast!  Sara looked amazing and her dress was gorgeous.  It was a joy to see Sara and her family SO happy.  I also got to see some old friends at the wedding and it was wonderful to catch up!  We couldn't have asked for a better night!  Congrats Sara and Steve!

Rory really was a trooper all week!  I dragged her around to a lot of different places and she saw a lot of different people and she did a really good job of adapting to every situation.  She was absolutely exhausted on the way home yesterday, but so were Tim and I.  Its amazing how much Rory learned over the week.  She has a ton of new words and her verbal skills are just amazing.  And she is has starting singing songs a little bit and remembering the words.  Her version of Row, Row, Row your boat is hilarious!  I absolutely loved spending the extra time with her this week!
